Please join us on Thursday, April 3 for an author talk and book-signing with local sustainable chef, Cathy Katin-Grazzini, about how best to eat for the planet as presented in her book Love the Foods that Love the Planet, Recipes to Cool the Climate and Excite the Senses (HCI Books, 2024).
What we eat and how we produce food matters - for the health of our bodies and the health of the planet. The past 10 years have been the hottest on record. As global temperatures continue to rise, several of Earth's vast biophysical systems that buffer us from the adverse climate impacts are faltering. Even Nature has its limits. In its latest State of the Climate Report the American Meteorological Society warned:
"We are on the brink of an irreversible climate disaster," the report begins. "This is a global emergency beyond any doubt. Much of the very fabric of life on Earth is imperiled. We are stepping into a critical and unpredictable new phase of the climate crisis."
There are many ways we each can reduce the pressures that stress climate systems, and one of the most impactful isn't hard or expensive to do:
"Want to slash your individual climate footprint? It's easy, it's delicious, and it starts with your fork," said Cathy Katin-Grazzini. "We all can make choices that cool the planet. Cooking for the planet is powerful and the time to act is now."
In her eco-friendly cookbook, Love the Foods that Love the Planet, Cathy Katin-Grazzini explains how to eat for the planet to lower greenhouse gas emissions, protect wildlife, and help us transition to a more climate resilient food system with over 100 tantalizing low-carbon, globally-inspired, sustainably sourced dishes for all those who care about the planet but don't want to skimp on taste.
Cathy Katin-Grazzini is a sustainable chef and author of Love the Foods That Love the Planet and Love the Foods That
Love You Back. From 2017 to 2022 Cathy was Food Editor for VEGWORLD Magazine.
Elm Street Books will be present to sell Cathy's book which she will sign after her talk. The library receives a percentage of these book sales.
