Event Details

Please join us in the Brubeck Room for another interesting ArtScapades lecture, Early American Portraiture: From Fine Art to Folk Art.  They will detail the lives and works of well-known fine artists such as John Singleton Copley and Gilbert Stuart as well as focus on two Early American Folk Artists Ammi Phillips and Erastus Salisbury Field, lesser known artists but also very important to the development of portraiture in America. This lecture looks at what was happening at the time in European portraiture, includes information on the rise of the middle class in America, and discusses the importance of art to document history before the invention of photography.

Robin Hoffman and Jodi Stiffelman, of ArtScapades, began teaching art appreciation in 1998.  They have presented at libraries, art centers, and museums in Connecticut, New York, New Jersey, Massachusetts, and Florida.
