Wilton Library is proud to present the Alan Broadbent Trio with Harvie S on bass and Billy Mintz on drums. The repertoire consists of classic jazz standards as well as some original tunes. This trio has been together over 10 years and their third CD Like Minds was released on High Note Records in March 2022: “a solid and pleasurable hour-long session by a trio of world-class jazz musicians.” – Jazz Times
Alan Broadbent's Dave Brubeck project was released in December 2019 on Dave's 99th birthday. It was recorded in London at Abbey Road Studios with a string orchestra and jazz trio also featuring Harvie S on bass.
At age 19, New Zealand-born Alan Broadbent won a Downbeat Magazine scholarship to attend the Berklee College of Music in Boston and soon was the pianist and arranger for Woody Herman’s big band. He went on to play the piano, arrange, and conduct for some of the great jazz vocalists including Natalie Cole, Shirley Horn, and Diana Krall. He won two Grammy Awards for his arrangements and has been twice nominated for the Grammy for best instrumental performance.
Harvie S is back in the Brubeck Room for his eighth performance - most recently in 2022 with Brubeck tenor sax man Jerry Bergonzi and with Alan Broadbent before that in 2019. Harvie is an award-winning bassist, educator, composer, arranger, and producer. He has played with many of the biggest names in jazz (Chick Corea, Michael Brecker, Tony Bennett, Jim Hall, Kenny Barron) and has performed in a wide variety of jazz festivals around the globe as well as in such venues as The Blue Note, The Village Vanguard, and the Kennedy Center.
Billy Mintz was born in Queens and by age 15 was already performing with the show bands of the Catskills resorts. Like his bandmates, Billy has played with some of the big names in jazz in a variety of configurations from the classic trio format to the symphonic jazz orchestra. Throughout his life he has taught privately and done clinics at schools around the world. He has also written two books on advanced drum technique.
Hot & Cool Jazz is brought to you by the generosity of the Estate of James (Tom) and Alice Brown. Special thanks to Chris & Tish Brubeck.
