Please join us in the Brubeck Room for film historian Greg Blank's talk on the Career and Films of Meryl Streep. Meryl Streep is an American actress widely regarded as one of the greatest actors of her generation, with a prolific career spanning over four decades, earning numerous awards and accolades for her performances. Streep's breakthrough in film came with her role in Kramer vs. Kramer (1979), where she won her first Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress. She went on to star in a series of critically acclaimed films such as Sophie's Choice (1982), Out of Africa (1985), The Devil Wears Prada (2006), and Mamma Mia! (2008). In addition to her film career, Streep has also been involved in stage productions, television, and voice acting. She is known for her exceptional talent, dedication to her craft, and ability to immerse herself in diverse roles, making her a highly respected and influential figure in the entertainment industry.
A Long Island based filmmaker, film historian, and lecturer, Greg Blank has over 20 years of experience as a producer, director, cinematographer, and editor. He is an award-winning producer for the show "Push Pause Long Island" on Verizon Fios1, and as a documentarian for the films "Undocumented" (2016), and "A World Within a World: The Bay Houses of Long Island" (2020). Greg has developed and produces over 60 lecture programs for public and private clients, including LIU Post Hutton House Lectures, Molloy College, The Huntington Cinema Arts Centre, and dozens of libraries and venues around the country.
