Program Description

Event Details

The Ovation Guitar, built in New Hartford Connecticut, played a significant role in the singer/songwriter explosion of the late '60s and continuing through the '70s . The advancements in live sound systems led to ever increasing concert sizes requiring an acoustic guitar that was yet to be produced. The Ovation Guitar Company stepped up to fill that void and propeled the singer/songwriter to the forefront of the music scene in that era.

In this presentation you will not only explore the history of the Ovation guitar, but the role it played in literally saving the singer/songwriter movement of this period. See which famous artists used the Ovation guitar to propel their careers forward and hear some of the music performed live by Jim on the Ovation guitar from artists such as Glen Campbell, Cat Stevens, Simon & Garfunkel, John Denver and more.

Jim Lenn  grew up in Southern California and started playing music at the age of 8.  After hearing the Beatles at 12, he knew music would be an important part of his life. He became heavily involved in the South Bay music scene during the influential late '60s and as a multi-instrumentalist continued to record, perform and tour until his relocation to the East Coast in 2000.  Wasting no time after the move, Jim played in the local folk/gospel group east of Nashville for 6 years and then joined the popular country group The Truckstop Troubadours for two years.  Aside from doing solo performances and music related presentations, he is one of the founding members and director of the Kinetic Ukes ukulele ensemble based in Simsbury CT.
