Please join us in the Brubeck Room for another important parenting event presented by SPED*NET. Anxiety has become one of the most common challenges faced by children today; parents are often facing similar struggles. Clinical psychologist Mary Murphy, PhD, will explore the shared experience of anxiety between parents and kids, how both groups are affected on a daily basis, and practical, effective management tools, such as biofeedback at home with smartphones.
Mary Murphy, PhD, is a licensed clinical psychologist specializing in psychotherapy, executive function, parent coaching, and psychological testing. Her counseling practice focuses on supporting children and adolescents with ADHD and mood disorders, with a particular emphasis on coaching parents of children with these challenges. She provides comprehensive psychological evaluations for children/adolescents to help clarify their diagnoses and assists parents in understanding their children’s mental health needs and in advocating effectively for services in school. Her unique combination of training and clinical experience enables her to evaluate the interplay of emotional symptoms, cognitive/learning issues, medical conditions, and substance use, and their impact on a student’s potential in school.
Dr. Murphy earned her doctoral degree at Yeshiva University (Albert Einstein College of Medicine campus) and completed her advanced fellowship training at the Yale School of Medicine. She is HeartMath certified in heart rate variability biofeedback. Currently an assistant professor of Psychology at Western Connecticut State University, Dr. Murphy maintains a private practice in Newtown, CT, offering therapy and psychological testing both in person and via telehealth. Additionally, she was the inaugural President of the Newtown Special Education PTA , on which she currently serves as a board member.
Presented by SPED*NET in partnership with Wilton Library, Wilton Youth Council, Wilton Public Schools and Newtown Sped PTA.
