Please join us and Wilton Go Green to hear from Certified Master Composter and HRRA Executive Director, Jen Heaton-Jones, who will cover the basics of backyard composting such as:

  • What type of bin is best for you
  • Where to locate your bin
  • What to put into your bin (and what to avoid!)
  • How to manage your bin
  • Troubleshooting
  • Harvesting and using your compost

Come learn how to start your own backyard composting system or get tips and trips to improve on your current system. 

Jen Heaton-Jones is the Executive Director of the Housatonic Resources Recovery Authority.  A regional, governmental solid waste management authority serving 14 municipalities in Western Connecticut.  Jen is a leading expert in the state of Connecticut in composting and sustainable material management.  She is a certified Master Composter and has been teaching composting 101 classes for over ten years.  Jen has developed comprehensive compost programs throughout the HRRA region that have significantly contributed to waste reduction goals of the state.  She is committed to community outreach and education and conducts composting 101 classes to teach individuals and groups how to compost effectively.  Her engaging approach makes composting accessible and fun, inspiring people to embrace sustainable practices in their everyday lives.
