Event Details

Please join us for a very special and historic jazz concert. Saxophonist Jon De Lucia has put together an all-star jazz octet featuring Grammy-winning saxophonist Scott Robinson to perform the music of the Dave Brubeck Octet. The Brubeck Octet, formed in the 1940s, is where Brubeck and his fellow composition students at Mills College explored musical concepts like polytonality and odd meters for the first time. After years of research at Mills and here in The Brubeck Collection at Wilton Library, De Lucia has brought these arrangements back to life for the first time since the 1950s. His Octet's just-released CD will, of course, be available for sale after the concert.

Saxophonist/arranger Jon De Lucia is a 20-year veteran of the NYC jazz scene. His sixth release, The Brubeck Octet Project, focuses on the little known early music of Dave Brubeck and is an outgrowth of De Lucia's archival work as a PhD candidate in Musicology at the CUNY Graduate Center.

  Scott Robinson - Tenor Saxophone
  Brandon Lee - Trumpet
  Becca Patterson - Trombone
