Program Description

Event Details

Wilton Library will feature two art exhibitions for the month of April. The "Paint it Up!" art exhibit will proudly feature local artists who participate in our Paint It Up! adult library program. The paintings will be on display in the library's Gallery. Our bonus art exhibit, "Chinese Calligraphy by Christine Yuan" showcasing the work of Fairfield-based artist Christine Yuan, will be on display in the Reading and Reference Areas.

The Paint it Up! program is hosted twice a month here at Wilton Library. Each session, we supply the canvas, paints, brushes and a collection of masterpieces to copy and inspire the painter. No art experience required. Just a desire to pick up a brush, have fun and let your inner self out!

The "Chinese Calligraphy by Christine Yuan" exhibit features the work of Fairfield-based artist Christine Yuan, whose practice centers on traditional Chinese calligraphy. Using brush, ink, and Xuan paper, her work explores calligraphy as both a visual art form and a meditative, rhythmic gesture rooted in centuries-old script traditions. Each piece reflects the balance between structure and spontaneity, transforming written characters into expressive compositions of movement, energy, and time. Through her work, Yuan invites viewers to experience calligraphy beyond language — as a living practice shaped by discipline, intention, and cultural continuity.

Yuan has been selected for the SNEAP program at the Connecticut Museum of Culture and History for two consecutive years and is currently apprenticing under calligraphy artist Jun Lin. The SNEAP program is funded in part by the National Endowment for the Arts, the Connecticut Office of the Arts (DECD), and the Cornelia T. Bailey Foundation, and is supported by the Connecticut Museum of Culture and History.

Opening Reception on Friday, April 10 from 6 to 7:30pm is free and open to the public with refreshments served. The exhibits are on view from March 30 through May 4. A majority of the works will be available for purchase with a portion of the proceeds benefiting the library.
