In honor of Transgender Awareness Month, Wilton Library and Wilton Pride are honored to host author Jillian Celentano for a special speaking engagement. Join us for an insightful evening as Jillian shares her powerful lived experiences as a transgender woman. This is a unique opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of the transgender journey and celebrate the diverse voices within our community. 

We invite everyone to be a part of this important conversation. This talk will educate and bring awareness regarding the transgender/gender expansive population. Jillian will explore topics and issues based on her education, experience in the field, and lived personal experience. The audience will become familiar with what affirming healthcare looks like and the truths and misconceptions of gender affirming care. Basic language and terminology will also be discussed to develop an understanding of the transgender community.

Attendees will walk away with a deeper understanding of :

• What transgender/gender diverse is

• The importance of language and terminology, and pronouns

• Gender affirming healthcare

• Facing today’s societal challenges

• Providing resources

Jillian Celentano

Jillian is a transgender woman who began her transition in 2016 at the age of 55.  She has a Masters in Social Work and is a licensed psychotherapist, social worker, advocate, and has organized support groups for transgender/gender diverse children, young adults, and adults.  Jillian is a board member at the Agency on Aging of South Central Connecticut, was a research assistant in the LGBTQ+ relationship studies lab, GSA instructor, and has also co-authored two published transgender studies at Yale University. She is a published author of her book, Transitioning Later in Life: A Personal Guide. Jillian is a Medical Educator/ Standardized Patient at Yale and Quinnipiac Universities, and is now working at a private practice as a licensed therapist and educator for the transgender/gender expansive community.
