Please join us in the Brubeck Room for a unique concert by the Hanoverian Ensemble.  The concert bookends a musical era, with Van Eyck's birdsong-based works for solo recorder (1644) at one end and Rameau's Piece de Clavecin en concert No. 5 (1749) at the other. The ensemble will play on modern copies of important historical instruments, as well as a rare antique French flute, contemporary with Rameau. The ensemble’s name evokes the time of the Hanoverian kings of England (1714-1837).

Richard Wyton, flute, has appeared in concert series and festivals including Caramoor, Music Mountain, Wolf Trap, Connecticut Early Music Festival and performed with period-instrument ensembles including The Grande Bande, Helicon and The Hanoverian Ensemble. In addition to historical repertoire, He has recorded on the Arabesque, Epiphany, CRI, Inova, Music Minus One and MSR Classics labels. Richard has authored articles for publications including the Garland Encyclopedia of Keyboard Instruments and The Flutist Quarterly, and has served as Executive Director of the Connecticut Early Music Festival, Treasurer of The National Flute Association, panelist for the New Hampshire Arts Council, and is currently President of the Hanoverian Foundation, the parent organization of the period-instrument Hanoverian Ensemble. For 21 years Mr. Wyton taught band at Cider Mill School.

The performances of Jay Elfenbein have been described by the New York Times as “played magnificently” and “with virtuosity and flair.” Principal bassist and violone player for various ensembles in US and Europe, he has also appeared as viola da gamba soloist and improviser in early music, as well as jazz, rock, and other styles. He holds a Master of Music degree in jazz composition and arranging, and is an accomplished teacher, who also was a featured soloist with Cirque du Soleil in China. Mr. Elfenbein is the director of the Ivory Consort, the medieval ensemble, and GambaDream, a group that features the electric viol. As a composer, his work has been performed in the U.S., Japan, Canada, Europe and South
America.

Jonathan Vaughn is Associate Director of Music at Christ Church, Greenwich CT. He was born into a musical British-American family in the UK, and moved to the United States in 2017, working for six months at The Cathedral of All Saints, Albany NY before moving to Greenwich. Previously, he was Organ Scholar at St John’s College, Cambridge, and held organ playing positions at St George’s Chapel, Windsor Castle, and Wells Cathedral. Jonathan has a substantial discography as a choral accompanist, capped off by acclaimed solo recordings of transcriptions of Wagner and Tchaikovsky.
