Please join us as Michael Hess leads a discussion of Islam Issa’s Alexandria: The City that Changed the World. For millennia, from pre-Homeric times up to the present, the city of Alexandria has played host to all of the great empires of the West and Near East - not to mention its Great Library, the global capital of knowledge in the ancient world for centuries. Beyond the many scholars who did their research there, many key figures in human history have left their mark on the city beginning with its founder Alexander the Great, his tutor Aristotle, Cleopatra, St. Mark, Napoleon and more. Islam Issa, a native of Alexandria, has written a lively and fascinating account of this most cosmopolitan city. Booklist’s starred review said: “Islam Issa, a natural storyteller, recounts the history and mythology of his native city with verve and vivacity.”

This group meets on the 4th Tuesday of each month from September through May, excluding December. Call the Senior Center for details and to register at 203-834-6240. Comstock Community Center, 180 School Road, Wilton.
