Please join us as Carol Kaelin leads a discussion of David McCullough’s Mornings on Horseback: The Story of an Extraordinary Family, a Vanished Way of Life, and the Unique Child who Became Theodore Roosevelt. David McCullough’s masterful biography of the young Teddy Roosevelt won the LA Times Book Prize for Biography in 1981 as well as the National Book Award a year later. It’s the story of how a young sickly boy transformed himself into an avid outdoorsman, a war hero and, ultimately, a president. McCullough’s books always break new scholarly ground while intertwining social/cultural history with fascinating life stories. The supporting cast of Teddy’s childhood family members adds important context as well as a richly embroidered family biography. The Detroit News said: “This is a marvelous chronicle of manners and morals, love and duty, and as captivating as anything you will find between book covers in a long while.”
This group meets on the 4th Tuesday of each month from September through May, excluding December. Call the Senior Center for details and to register at 203-834-6240. Comstock Community Center, 180 School Road, Wilton.
