DESCRIPTION:Please join us in the Brubeck Room for a unique concert by the
  Hanoverian Ensemble.  The concert bookends a musical era, with Van Eyck&
 #039;s birdsong-based works for solo recorder (1644) at one end and Rameau
 &#039;s Piece de Clavecin en concert No. 5 (1749) at the other. The ensemb
 le will play on modern copies of important historical instruments, as well
  as a rare antique French flute, contemporary with Rameau. The ensemble’
 s name evokes the time of the Hanoverian kings of England (1714-1837). Ri
 chard Wyton, flute, has appeared in concert series and festivals including
  Caramoor, Music Mountain, Wolf Trap, Connecticut Early Music Festival and
  performed with period-instrument ensembles including The Grande Bande, He
 licon and The Hanoverian Ensemble. In addition to historical repertoire, H
 e has recorded on the Arabesque, Epiphany, CRI, Inova, Music Minus One and
  MSR Classics labels. Richard has authored articles for publications inclu
 ding the Garland Encyclopedia of Keyboard Instruments and The Flutist Quar
 terly, and has served as Executive Director of the Connecticut Early Music
  Festival, Treasurer of The National Flute Association, panelist for the N
 ew Hampshire Arts Council, and is currently President of the Hanoverian Fo
 undation, the parent organization of the period-instrument Hanoverian Ense
 mble. For 21 years Mr. Wyton taught band at Cider Mill School.The performa
 nces of Jay Elfenbein have been described by the New York Times as “play
 ed magnificently” and “with virtuosity and flair.” Principal bassist
  and violone player for various ensembles in US and Europe, he has also ap
 peared as viola da gamba soloist and improviser in early music, as well as
  jazz, rock, and other styles. He holds a Master of Music degree in jazz c
 omposition and arranging, and is an accomplished teacher, who also was a f
 eatured soloist with Cirque du Soleil in China. Mr. Elfenbein is the direc
 tor of the Ivory Consort, the medieval ensemble, and GambaDream, a group t
 hat features the electric viol. As a composer, his work has been performed
  in the U.S., Japan, Canada, Europe and SouthAmerica.Jonathan Vaughn is As
 sociate Director of Music at Christ Church, Greenwich CT. He was born into
  a musical British-American family in the UK, and moved to the United Stat
 es in 2017, working for six months at The Cathedral of All Saints, Albany 
 NY before moving to Greenwich. Previously, he was Organ Scholar at St John
 ’s College, Cambridge, and held organ playing positions at St George’s
  Chapel, Windsor Castle, and Wells Cathedral. Jonathan has a substantial d
 iscography as a choral accompanist, capped off by acclaimed solo recording
 s of transcriptions of Wagner and Tchaikovsky. In addition to his work at 
 Christ Church, he has a busy recital schedule in the UK and US, and freque
 ntly works as a continuo player and choral director.Registration required.
