Program Description

Event Details

Please join us for a new poetry series, "Page vs. Stage: Poetry as Performance Art," led by poet laureate emerita of Ridgefield Barb Jennes, on three Monday afternoons in October, from 3 - 4:30 p.m.

According to Barb, poetry is best appreciated as a spoken art form, and this three-session program will help to illustrate why. Participants will view and discuss videos of performances by Danez Smith, Maya Angelou, Taylor Mali, Patricia Smith, Sarah Kay, and other spoken-word masters. Each session will focus on specific genres, such as humor, persona, social justice, teen, or duet/team performances.

Come experience poetry as off-the-page performance!

Barb Jennes is an award-winning poet whose work appears widely in journals and anthologies. The author of two chapbooks, Blinded Birds and Flown, she is a retired English teacher and poet laureate emerita of Ridgefield.

Registration is required.
